What this site does
We publish guides to help you ask useful questions about rooftop solar, incentives, and proposals. We also offer a quote-request form for homeowners who want contact from independent solar companies. Buffalo Solar Incentives is not a solar installer, financing provider, government agency, or utility.
Our information does not establish that a particular home is suitable for solar or that a project qualifies for an incentive. Use the project guide to prepare questions for your municipality, serving utility, and prospective installer.
How requests and funding work
When you submit a quote request, your contact and project information passes through a third-party submission service to independent partner solar companies for potential matching and follow-up. More than one company may contact you. Review the consent on the form and our Privacy Policy before submitting.
We may be compensated when a request is passed to partner companies. You do not have to submit a request to read our guides. Partner companies are responsible for their communications, assessments, proposals, contracts, and work. A request does not guarantee an available installer, an offer, savings, or financing approval.

Editorial standards
We use primary authorities: the IRS; New York Department of Taxation and Finance; NYSERDA; New York Department of Public Service; the serving utility; City of Buffalo and Erie County; New York statutes and the State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code; and NREL research and tools, including PVWatts.
We exclude marketing sites, installer advertising, and aggregators as evidence for program rules or local requirements. We link claims to the relevant authority and distinguish general guidance from an answer verified for an individual property.
When we cannot verify a fact, we label it as unverified and turn it into a question. For a current example, our incentives guide marks local RPTL 487 opt-outs and current Buffalo-region residential NY-Sun availability as unverified. A statewide rule alone does not establish a local benefit.
